This paper presents a survey research findings from a multidisciplinary study that integrates ethnographic, feminist, and fourth generation approaches. A behavioural framework that helps understand environmental practices in a small rural community in the exuadorian Andes is utilised. Results indicated a number of relevant determinant factors, moderating factors, and socio-demographic factors. This survey research indicates the importance of environmental education for the success of pro-environmental projects.

Martha Arias, B.Comm, M.Sc, has an undergraduate degree in Finance and International Business as well as a joint Master’s degree in International Development and Consumer Studies. Ms. Arias has worked with the Inter-American Bank of Development and community development non-profit organisations in Latin America. Ms. Arias' expertise is in the development, implementation and evaluation of projects within disadvantage communities in the developing world. She has also worked for the Canadian arm of The Easter Seals Society and is currently the Program Director for Opportunity International Canada.
