New teachers and principals frequently face insurmountable red tape, innumerable decisions, unjustifiable busy work, and unfortunately, unrequited politics. Of 11 people who were working on completing required teacher education coursework while teaching, only six were making real progress after a year into the transition program. Course topics from the program's first year as outlined in course syllabi provide a glimpse of the potential consistency of a new educator's "cram session." Since new educators are frequently overwhelmed — even to the point of career change — it seems crucial to look at innovative ways to reverse that trend and provide sustainability. The paper addresses questions such as, "What should be done by the people who are committed to proactively encourage and sustain them?" The paper provides a sustainability checklist as a model to be used or adapted by new teachers, new principals, and their sustainability team.
