Synergy and the Sacred: Re-creating a Viable World Vision
Establishing sustainability in our lives requires a profound change in our spiritual relationship with the world. Spirituality is the concept of interconnection found in all religions whether or not it upholds a belief in a single Creator. Thus, while it is important to look at all aspects of our lives individually (technological development, city planning, education, etc.) and develop specific strategies for each: a more fundamental approach requires that we re-establish a visceral connection with Creation. Yet, one does not need religion in order to experience this interdependence for it can be understood in purely scientific terms as well. Field Theory reveals itself in all scientific disciplines (from physics to psychology). The concept of interconnection underlies field theory in the same way as it defines spirituality. Thus, we can use our newfound knowledge and our growing spiritual union to shape our daily habits, personal interactions, technological and corporate decisions, and our relationship to the "material" world. A spiritual world-view motivated by an understanding of its synergistic powers can lead to profound changes in our relations with one another and our environment. It is a utopia for most, but our intellectual paths (in science in particular) place us in a unique position to leap forward in our spiritual and social evolution. Making these essential changes will grant us the power to create not only a viable world, yet one in which we can bring an end to many social and economic injustices as well.
